ASG continue to offer great audit, training and operational management support to our clients around the world

Our first co-operative deal will be with Aviate Consulting – a successful new aviation company with offices in the UK and US, with a very similar product offering as ASG.  By working together it will provide a wider choice of service for customers as well as increasing the depth of knowledge and experience of the two companies.

ASG & Smart Handling have delivered top ranking ground support to easyJet

In 2011 we saw a steady work stream, dealing with restructuring of a number of aviation businesses as well as optimisation of existing operations.  Our continued contract with Smart Handling by Servisair has seen the successful completion of the first year of operations for this new ground handling brand.  The 2 airports where Smart operates have delivered performance resulting in Newcastle and Liverpool holding number 1 and 2 in the easyJet performance table.

This is a reflection of the experience and reputation of Stuart and of ASG.  IATA are the international body representing airlines and other aviation companies and issues the internationally recognised framework of legislation through which aviation operates across the globe.  IATA has a number of excellent training centres across the world, including Singapore, China, Miami (USA), Geneva and India.

Stuart Matheson is a director with ASG.  Based in the UK he has worked with a number of high profile clients and was responsible for setting up a number of successful aviation businesses, including Menzies Ground Handling UK.  He has worked for airlines, airports and third party suppliers in  operational roles and has extensive commercial experience.  Recent ASG contracts led by Stuart have included the set up of a new ground handler in the UK, a business optimisation project which generated €1.6 million savings and €3.1 million increased income per year for the airline and on-going management and staff support services including training and development for a number of clients.

2011 has continued to deliver a steady stream of work from a variety of Aviation clients for ASG.

Following the start up of handling operations in Newcastle and Liverpool for Smart Handling by Servisair, ASG managed the transfer of staff under TUPE  regulations, as well as managing the day to day operational transition.  With successful negotiations by ASG on behalf of the client and unions, staff now have a positive future to look forward to and Smart Handling is poised for a long term success at these new bases.

ASG have completed a deal with  international ground handling provider Servisair to provide ground handling services for low-cost operator EasyJet at their hubs in Newcastle and Liverpool John Lennon airports.  EasyJet flew over 49 million passengers in 2009, and with the expansion of routes from these two key northern airports, 2011 looks set for a bumper year.

UPS - Quick to act on recent security alert

As we have seen over the past 10 or so years of heightened security requirements, some of the measures have been counter-productive in the overall scheme of things.  There can be no denying that a great leap forward occurred with the AAA regulations requiring all baggage to be reconciled with the passengers on-board.  However, I remain at a loss as to why liquids are limited to 100ml although the number of individual 100ml units is not restricted.  Likewise, why do we need to remove our laptops at the x-ray despite the fact that the machines are perfectly capable of scanning through laptop bags.  We must hope that the ban on toner cartridges does not implicate every photocopier engineer in a terrorist plot!

Airports have to operate safely but the public also want speed and ease of service

and for many of the industry users themselves.  We urge a considered approach to the mandating of any new requirements, and whilst we always advocate the highest security and safety for the industry and public, we would remind the decision makers that aviation needs to operate safely, on-time and profitably in order to survive.  A considered and consistent approach is necessary – do not confuse increased bureaucracy with better security measures.
